Nickelodeon's 'That Girl Lay Lay' Creator, David A. Arnold, Dies at 54

David A. Arnold, the standup comedian and former head writer of Nickelodeon’s That Girl Lay Lay, died in his hometown of San Diego, according to reports from The Washington Post and People Magazine. He was 54 years old. Arnold had been battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma when he passed away at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego after having been hospitalized since June 3rd, according to the Post.

David Arnold was born on March 12th, 1962 in New York City to a family of artists. He started his career as a standup comedian while attending the prestigious Manhattan Academy of Music, pursuing his love for performing arts all the way to graduation and early recognition as one of The Funniest People In The World by The Los Angeles Times in 1987. He has died of natural causes at the age of 54, CNN reports. The comedian was best known for creating Nickelodeon’s That Girl Lay Lay and served as head writer and producer for television series such as Yo Gabba Gabba!

It wasn't until 1991 that Arnold became the creator and producer of Nickelodeon's That Girl Lay Lay. Under his management, he created over 130 episodes of Nickelodeon's first prime-time animated series that achieved record ratings and today remains in syndication world-wide.

Everyone loved David and he was loved by everyone. His creativity, comedic timing and intuitive heart will be missed by many but never forgotten. David’s final video was the true testament to his love of comedy and drive to make people laugh, cry or sometimes both all in the same moment with just his presence on screen.
