The artist and businesswoman was born on December 8, 1982 in Trinidad and Tobago, and eventually moved to Queens, New York with her family at the age of 5. She would go on to attend Manhattan’s LaGuardia High School before dropping out after her sophomore year and beginning her career in music full-time. Her first big break came when she was discovered by Lil Wayne, whom she collaborated with frequently in her early years.

Nicki's career started when she became one of the first signings to Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment. She released her debut album Pink Friday in 2010 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. In 2017, she made her return to music with a new song called Rake It Up ft. Migos which debuted at #1 on iTunes and had its video premiere during BET Awards weekend.
